Scholarship Opportunities for Qualified Students

Our Rio Grande Valley community often faces financial hardships, but this shouldn’t impede our graduating high school seniors from fulfilling their dreams of obtaining a higher education. VAMOS strives to help commendable students begin and finish their post-secondary education with the financial assistance of our scholarships.

VAMOS Scholarship

This scholarship was made for high school seniors from Hidalgo, Starr and Cameron County. To qualify, students must:
  • Be a high school senior in Hidalgo, Starr or Cameron County graduating in the spring
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident with a Social Security Number. Permanent residents must have lived in Hidalgo, Starr or Cameron County for five consecutive years
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student for four academic years at a U.S. accredited college or university
  • Have a GPA of at least 80/100 or 2.5/4.0 and/or rank in the top 30% of their graduating high school class
  • Have met the minimum SAT or ACT score requirements for the student’s college or university of choice
  • Students must be eligible for Pell Grant

HSF/VAMOS Scholarship

Eligible University of Texas-Pan American students can potentially receive $3,000 per year using the HSF/VAMOS Scholarship. Others may qualify to receive up to $5,000 per year over four academic years. Requirements include:
  • Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident or qualifying non-U.S. citizen
  • Be a high school senior in Hidalgo, Starr or Cameron County
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0
  • Be eligible for a Pell Grant
  • Seek full-time enrollment as a freshman for a degree at a four-year accredited institution in the United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam
  • Must plan to seek federal financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

VAMOS/UTRGV Scholarship

The VAMOS/UTRV Endowed Scholarship Program provides students with renewable financial assistance for up to four undergraduate years or up until graduation. The award amount correlates to the student’s unmet financial needs as decided by the UTRGV Financial Aid Office. The award amount for the VAMOS/UTRGV Scholarship will not surpass the amount from the VAMOS Scholarship program. Requirements are as follows:
  • Be a graduating high school senior from Hidalgo, Starr or Cameron County who plans to enroll at UTRGV
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be part of the top 25% of the graduating class
  • Prove financial necessity and be Pell Grant-eligible according to the UTRGV Financial Aid Office and defined by FAFSA
