The painting depicts Parisians at a park on the banks of the River Seine. Some of the character details include a woman with a pet monkey on a leash, and in the painting's center, a little girl dressed in white stares out of the canvas. The painting was the basis for the 1984 Broadway musical Sunday in the Park
